Mothers In Music is, a first of it’s kind initiative for Northern Ireland, made possible by the Spirit of 2012 Carers’ Music Fund.

Over twelve weeks in 2021, the Oh Yeah Music Centre delivered an online programme for 17 women across Ireland. All the women were united in their love for and talent in music, but found it difficult to progress in music due to caring and parenting duties.

We offered them an opportunity to reconnect, regain confidence and get back into writing, recording and performance again through a series of masterclasses from Katie Melua, Michelle Escoffery, Sophie Daniels, Stina Tweedale, Brigid O’Neill, Theodora Byrne, Olga Fitzoy, Isobel Anderson and Helen McDonnell.

Together the women formed a supportive and nurturing community, a forum for feedback and space to grow creatively.

Women’s Work 2021 will feature a premiere of their virtual performance of ‘Push That Knot Away’ written by KT Tunstall. The songs theme centres around confronting fears, rather than giving up or running away. A fitting celebration of journey these women have gone on together via Mothers In Music.
